What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a part of
Traditional Chinese Medicine which
has been practiced in Asia for
millennia. Because of its efficiency, its
use has been increasing in the West.
Needles are the main
therapeutic tool in acupuncture.
They are placed on precise body
points, located on meridians through
which flows energy; “QI”.
Acupuncture needles are
extremely thin; the pain felt at their
insertion can be compared to a
mosquito bite.
To assure maximum security,
acupuncture needles are sterile and
single-use needles. Treatments
therefore entail absolutely no risk of
contamination.
Description of an acupuncture session
On the first visit, the acupuncturist makes a complete evaluation of the patient's situation by asking questions,
taking the pulse and examining the tongue. The acupuncturist then makes his
Chinese medicine diagnosis and chooses the points he will use. Then the needles are inserted and left in place for twenty minutes.
Is the needle insertion painful?
Acupuncture needles are very thin (0.22 to 0.30 mm) and therefore, their insertion is not painful.
It can be compared to a mosquito bite.
Who can benefit from acupuncture treatments?
Everybody can benefit from acupuncture treatments: children (with laser or needles),
pregnant women, adults and elderly people. Since acupuncture is also a preventive approach, even people
who want to stay healthy could use it.
Do insurance companies pay for acupuncture
treatments?
Since its foundation in 1994,
The Quebec Acupuncturist Order
has gained recognition and
autonomy; more and more
insurance companies refund
treatments.
